The Partnership for the Sounds is a non-profit organization promoting environmental education and sustainable economic development through nature-based tourism in the Albemarle-Pamlico region.

 

Job openings are occassionally posted for one of our four facilities: NC Estuarium, Roanoke/Cashie River Center, Tyrrell County Visitor's Center, and the Columbia Theater Cultural Resources Center. 

NC Estuarium
Spring Museum Intern

About the Position: The North Carolina Estuarium (NCE) is seeking an enthusiastic intern with a passion for education and marine science to join our team. This internship will involve a blend of educational programming for school/youth groups and hands-on curatorial support in maintaining the NCE's aquariums. The ideal candidate will have a science background, enjoy working with students, and have an interest in marine species and estuarine ecosystems. The intern will work under the supervision of the Estuarium Curator. 

 

​Status: Part-time 8-16 hours a week, days depend on school schedule. Will include some Saturdays.

​

Term: January-May 2026

​

Possible Internship Responsibilities: 

Educational Programming: 

  • Assist Educator with school and youth groups visiting the Estuarium, engaging them in hands-on learning activities. 

  • Provide talks to school groups and other guest about the Estuarium lobby sculpture and other relevant exhibits. 

  • Assist with general visitor interactions on non-programming days by serving as a docent. 

 

Curatorial Support: 

  • Maintain NCE aquariums, ensuring they are operating in proper condition. 

  • Feed and care for specimens per the established schedule. 

  • Monitor and adjust salinity and water levels as needed. 

  • Clean aquarium glass, change filters, and ensure equipment such as pumps is functioning properly. 

  • Assist in acquiring new specimens for the aquariums and help with installations or changes to aquarium ornamentation.
